The New Silk Road
The New Silk Road is a global infrastructure development strategy adopted by the Chinese government in 2013 to invest in nearly 150 countries and international organizations along the former Silk Road. The geopolitical aim of the New Silk Road for China is to strengthen the economic ties between the participating countries and China by improving the physical infrastructure through land corridors. Ongoing and planned projects will focus on the development of a wide array of assets, including ports, roads, railways, airports, power plants, oil and gas pipelines and refineries, and Free Trade Zones, etc., as well as a supporting IT, telecom and financial infrastructure stretching from China to Europe.
This is also known as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
